Invasion of the Tiger Prawns

January 6, 2012 5:00 am by: Brian Baresch

Huge shrimp-like creatures that can grow over a foot long are showing up in nets all along the Gulf Coast.  It might sound like a tasty surprise, but as KUT’s Mose Buchele reports for StateImpact Texas, it’s also a mystery at sea that could threaten the ecosystem of the entire Gulf of Mexico.

“We have some concerns that they’ll be active predators on our shrimp and crabs. … It won’t be nice for the ecology. Our fish are not designed to eat foot-long shrimp,” said one researcher.

See what happens when you don’t teach evolution? You have researchers who think our fish have been “designed”!
