Fans of former Austin band The Fall Collection were happy to see songwriter/guitarist Danny Dunlap‘s new musical project, Gentlemen Rogues, emerge onto the music scene in 2010. Last year, they released a self-titled three-track EP, and that alone has me hopeful for an eventual full-length release from this band. To call them “catchy” would be an understatement.
This outstanding, solid combination of power, punk and indie pop with a lot of British influences has loads of power guitar to back it up – what my colleague, local blogger and music supporter Jennifer Leduc, fondly refers to as “that jangly yet crunchy sound.” This band is one of her favorites, especially because of their energetic stage presence (and it doesn’t hurt that Dunlap slings a mean left-handed Rickenbacker guitar, either).
You need to check out Gentlemen Rogues for yourself. They headline a show Thursday night at Frank, 4th and Colorado, that includes local bands Milk Thistle and Tiger Waves on the bill. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. Recommended.
