The tale of the band Deadman is, appropriately enough, one of death and resurrection. Over the past decade, the band has seen dissolution and evolution, and now the band is back and stronger than ever.

Deadman formed around the outset of the aughts by then-husband and wife team Steven and Sherilyn Collins. The band forged a warm, familiar sound that harkened back to the easy, earth-toned jams of early 70s country-rock. Records like their 2002 debut Paramour cemented Deadman’s place in the national music conciousness. But the band, and the Collins’ marriage wasn’t to be. The hiatus didn’t last forever though. Steven Collins revived Deadman with a brand new band. On records like 2010′s Live at the Saxon Pub, Deadman 2.0 established its rock-gospel chops with rolling B3 organ and tunes new and old that recall the Band in its heyday. Today’s song of the day “Don’t Do This To Me” appears on the live record, but also on a forthcoming record from Deadman called Take Up Your Mat and Walk.

There is no official release date yet for Take Up Your Mat, but you can get a taste of the warm sounds of Deadman this Friday, Jan. 27, at the Hotel Vegas.
