Journey into the seedy underworld of Belgium’s illicit bovine growth hormone Mafia. That’s the backdrop of the film Bullhead. This week, news came that it was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign-language film. That was great news for Austin’s Tim League and the folks at Drafthouse Films, which bought the distribution rights for Bullhead last year; it’s only the second film Drafthouse has distributed.

KUT’s Matt Largey spoke with League about the surprise nomination they learned about on TV, and the film’s prospects.

Most of the films in the foreign-language category haven’t had much, if any, of a theatrical run yet, or are just starting now. So it’s actually one of the more interesting categories to watch, and now is the time where they all enter theaters. Our original plan was to release Bullhead in April, but after that fateful 6 a.m. television broadcast, we’re going to bump it up to Feb. 17, so it’s right around the corner.
