Austin’s A Giant Dog is one of those bands that makes you want to stick your head in a speaker and wriggle around until the scrawl of feedback threatens to melt your insides.
The white-hot garage rock quintet formed back in 2008. Since then A Giant Dog has put out two EPs and a 7″ and built a reputation for blistering live shows featuring the stomp and Iggy Pop swagger of the band’s mesmerizing frontwoman Sabrina Ellis. The band was also featured on the Austin garage rock compilation Casual Victim Pile II, put out by Matador Records co-ownder Gerard Cosloy. Behind the noise Giant Dog is a band that’s full of great ears for pop music. Take for example today’s song of the day “Any Way,” which comes off the band’s 2010 mini-record Trashcan USA. The rhythm pulses at a breakneck pace as the melody and vocals urge the listener’s arms aloft. It’s a song that begs to be played at a high volume.
And high volume is something you’ll get this weekend when A Giant Dog plays tonight at Beerland. Trust us, you’re guaranteed some great shaking, sweat-dripping rock and roll.
