We’ve got your strings right here, buddy, courtesy of The Navasota String Band, an irresistible roots ensemble essential to any string music-lover’s list of favorites.

The Austin-based band started out as a trio: Ryan O’Donnell, Zach McLean, and Mateo Clarke. They’ve played gigs across the country and across the world, presenting an impressive repertoire of original bluegrass, country, blues, and folk songs, along with anything that’s perfect to take on with guitar, banjo, and fiddle. They’ve since added new member Joseph McGill; the mandolin and autoharp to their instrumentation; and a stronger focus on vocal harmonies. The guys are currently at work on their second full-length album, with help from their very own Kickstarter campaign, complete with video for their track “Lonesome Valley.” Will music save the day?! You’ll have to tune in to find out.

This is another one of those bands you’ve got to see live. Check out The Navasota String Band tonight at Skinny’s Ballroom, 115 San Jacinto. They’re sharing the bill with another Austin Music Minute favorite, roots/Americana quintet Ghosts Along the Brazos, and pedalsteel slinger Bob Hoffnar. The music starts at 8:30 p.m. Recommended.
