December rolls around, but chances are you were being bombarded as early as November. The holiday music is everywhere. Now I, your humble Austin Music Minute maven Laurie Gallardo, do understand that the whole holly-jolly music thing doesn’t necessarily appeal to everybody. For me personally, if it’s not something that’s classic old-school cool (think Nat “King” Cole‘s version of “The Christmas Song,” or Elvis Presley‘s “Blue Christmas”), it can be ridiculous, at times cringeworthy or a tad hokey. But never fear. We have some extraordinary alternatives to indulge in, courtesy of one of my most favorite local bands, The Invincible Czars.

The Czars are revving up the volume to present their Annual LOUD Holiday Show. This innovative and talented sextet offers brilliant interpretations of many holiday favorites, including their much-lauded renditions of music from The Nutcracker. Each and every Czars arrangement is an original mix of klezmer, polka, classical, funk and (holy smokes) strains of heavy metal that makes for a tremendous musical experience.

Don’t miss The Invincible Czars show Friday night at Skinny’s Ballroom, 115 San Jacinto. As an added treat, composer Graham Reynolds and the Golden Arm Trio will open the show. This is a must-see. Get there around 9 p.m. Merrily all the way.
