Songwriter Taylor Wilkins was living in San Marcos when he started his band The Couch with some friends in 2007. At first, it was nothing more than a few buddies getting together to jam in the garage. But, as with any good band that starts playing around town, they got themselves a following. Then, Wilkins thought it’d be a good idea to take a crack at the Live Music Capital of the World. The Couch was Austin-bound.

It didn’t take long for the trio to get attention by word-of-mouth. Soon Wilkins, drummer Jud Johnson (Frank Smith) and bassist Kyle Robarge (The Calm Blue Sea, Frank Smith) were working on EPs and defining their musical direction. And the live shows kept getting better. Again, the word “epic” does tend to oversaturate conversation these days, but that is the perfect description. Epic. Thunderous, blindingly electrifying rock-pop amazingness. Three EPs and several mindblowing gigs later, they’re ready to present their first full-length, Old and Touching Blue.

The trio has since become a quartet with the addition of songwriter and pianist Sarah Houser, who’ll be playing her first show with The Couch tonight at their CD release show at the Mohawk, 912 Red River. The bill includes two other killer local bands, Zlam Dunk and Little Radar. Ah, yes! One of those delectable triple bills. Doors open at 9 p.m. Highly recommended.
