Family is very important to David Beck and Paul Cauthen. The two men are the duo behind local country group Sons of Fathers. “This whole thing is coming down to us realizing we are playing through our families,” Cauthen told KUT’s Jay Trachtenberg in a recent visit to Studio 1A. “We represent our families and friends.”

Beck and Cauthen met when the two were solo performers based in San Marcos. A chance passing led them to start singing and writing together. The duo performed under the simple name of Beck and Cauthen until they got a terse letter from a certain perdador with a similar name, so Beck and Cauthen became Sons of Fathers.

They’ve recently released their self-titled debut, and they’ve been playing out relentlessly in support of it. Tonight you can see them play at Momo’s, or you can just check out today’s song of the day, “Sons of Fathers,” recorded live in KUT’s Studio 1A.
