It took Seth Sherman two and a half years to complete his new full-length release, When the Moment is True, and it’s been worth the wait. The poignant album explores a myriad of emotions, and features the songwriter playing all the instruments and doing all vocals on each track, with meticulous attention to each detail. Such is the strategy of an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable musical perfectionist, and the listener is greatly rewarded with buoyant folk-rock and pop,

Over the course of working on his album, Sherman formed a band for live performances and more collaborative songwriting projects. He’s brought songwriter and keyboardist Dieter Ray Langendorf on board, along with drummer Steve Anderson, bassist Drew Schlegel, guitarist Morris Ramos, and Devon McDermott to contribute vocals.

To celebrate the release of When the Moment is True, Seth Sherman and his band are having a CD release party tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the indoor stage. Former bandmate (and drums-vocal-loop pedal mastermind) Daniel Francis Doyle and local quartet Marriage Material are on the bill. Doors open at 9 p.m. Incredible album, incredible songwriter. This one’s recommended.
