Perry Buoyed by Poll Numbers
Governor Rick Perry stopped in Waterloo, Iowa today. Recent polls show Perry, former Senator Rick Santorum and former Speaker Newt Gingrich in a tight race for third place in that state’s GOP caucus next Tuesday. That’s put Perry on the attack, as he paints himself as an “authentic conservative.”
“My conservatism it spans the spectrum,” Perry told the crowd in Waterloo, “from fiscal issues to national security to social responsibility. Some talk a good game. But I’ve delivered.”
Several who came to see the governor speak in Waterloo said they’re still deciding between Perry and Santorum. Judy Stummy from Cedar Falls, Iowa says she’s starting to get a feel for Perry.
“He keeps making me lean in his direction. So yes, that does make me lean with like I say the issues, the way he wants to handle the issues. I appreciate that and appreciate his stand for many different things I’d say, so yes,” Stummy said.
Perry’s bus tour ends Monday in Perry, Iowa.
