The story goes like this:  When I, your Austin Music Minute host Laurie Gallardo, first heard songwriter Paul Banks sing, I was so struck by his singing that I approached the unsuspecting musician and declared, “I want to marry your voice.” Fortunately for me, he didn’t call security to have me escorted out of the building.

All joking aside, you’ll discover that Banks is an extraordinary talent. He has a deep connection with many styles of melody – whether pop- or rock-based, or sometimes even classic sounds harkening back to those larger-than-life performances of big band jazz. Because of this, Banks pushes his vocals to an entirely differently level, without reserve, thoughtfully capturing moments in time. Bottom line:  He’s an incredible singer. Yes, the word “epic” is overused, but the description is quite suited to his dynamic delivery.

Banks is wrapping up his month-long musical residency with his band The Carousels tonight at the Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th at Navasota.  And another Austin Music Minute favorite, Bill Baird, is the special guest performer this evening. Get there after 9 p.m. Highly recommended.
