State Board to Vote on Long Term Water Plan
As the Texas drought persists, the state’s population is growing and water supplies are getting tighter. The Texas Water Development Board is scheduled to vote Thursday on its 2012 State Water Plan. The report calls for billions of dollars in water infrastructure projects and conservation- to meet water needs over the next half century.
Medicaid Changes in Texas
Texas is fighting to control costs in Medicaid, the insurance program for the poor and disabled. Now the federal government has given the state permission to move almost all Medicaid patients into managed care, as a way to save money. But the new freedoms come with strings attached. Reporting from Houston, Carrie Feibel has details on the podcast.
City Council to Vote on Parks Smoking Ban
The Austin City Council is scheduled to take a final vote Thursday on whether to permanently ban smoking at city parks. The city says it is trying to address litter, health and fire risks. The way the ordinance is written now, golf courses would be exempt and exceptions could be made for some special events.
