Lawsuit Seeks Water for Cranes
A wild flock of whooping cranes flies each year from Wood Buffalo National Park in Canada to the Aransas marshes of the Texas Gulf Coast. The flock of approximately 300 cranes is expected to arrive in Texas sometime in December. KUT’s Erika Aguilar reports the endangered birds are at the center of a federal court case in Corpus Christi that starts on Monday.
Marking World AIDS Day
Thursday is the 23rd World AIDS Day. Several events are planned in Austin. An all-day event is set at the For the City Center on East St. Johns Avenue in North Austin. Starting at 10 a.m. there will be a resource fair and free HIV testing on the UT campus at the Student Activity Center.
New Districts Shuffle Travis County Campaigns
Lawmakers and hopefuls across the state began filing to run for the 2012 elections this week. At the same time, the state continued its battle to change the maps those candidates would use to run for election. KUT’s Ben Philpott reports on how the new court drawn maps could affect elections in Travis County.
