Like most people, you’re probably gearing up for the New Year’s Eve celebrations coming up this weekend. However, after hearing about this particular show, yours truly – your Austin Music Minute maven Laurie Gallardo – finds the mind reeling for next week. It’s known in the local music scene as Free Week.
Free Week is a wonderful opportunity to catch several fantastic shows at participating music venues without paying cover at the door. That’s free - your favorite price in the history of ever. And Free Week is also a great way to check out lots of amazing local up-and-coming music artists that you may have heard about on KUT.
Here’s a perfect example of such a show, and we’re getting this one early. It’s the Free Week Kick Off Show, Friday night at the Beauty Bar, 617 E. 7th St, providing a little taste of all the fabulous shows in store for next week. If I can be perfectly blunt, it’s a line-up from heaven featuring some of my favorite bands: Indie folk sextet Wild Child; bluegrass/folk-country madmen Whiskey Shivers; songwriter Matt Hines‘ ever-evolving line-up, The Eastern Sea; Alejandro Rose-Garcia‘s mind-blowing project Shakey Graves; and introducing Brooklyn songwriter Walker Lukens.
Get to the Beauty Bar Friday around 9 p.m. This one comes highly recommended.
