With a little of that old time rock ‘n’ roll attitude and Texas swagger comes local Austin five-piece December Boys.

The band brings together members from local favorites Heartless Bastards, Brothers and Sisters, The Ugly Beats, Sally Crewe and The Sudden Moves, and The Strange Attractors. The man behind the December Boys’ rough and tumble country rock sound is songwriter Lyle Darrin, formerly of Austin garage rockers The Golden Boys. While the group doesn’t have a proper album yet, they do have a few outstanding tracks floating around the web, like today’s song of the day “I Walk Alone.”

The tune is like a greaser with a heart of gold. Darrin could be a voice double for (pre-Buster Poindexter) David Johansen. Greasy guitars, and a swinging, shambolic rhythm nicely contrast with the simple, sweet and bubblegummy melody. The 50s-style call-and-response vocals on the chorus add a bit of playfulness to an already cool, down-and-dirty rock ‘n’ roll song.

On Saturday the December Boys open for Portland band Drunken Prayer at Club DeVille.
