Bastrop Hangs Out the “We’re Open” Sign
This year’s wildfires torched 1,600 homes and set back 48 businesses, but Bastrop officials want to let people know the city is still open for business. Vicky Garza writes about economic recovery efforts in this week’s Austin Business Journal. She tells KUT’s Emily Donahue that Bastrop is losing $918 million in sales to other cities each year because it lacks the retail base to meet demand, so it’s taking action.
For shoppers they are doing social media campaigns such as their BuyBastropTX; they’re running it on Facebook and Twitter. They are also encouraging businesses to come into the area by offering different types of incentives.
