Around Town: “37th St.” Christmas Lights

December 24, 2011 2:37 pm by: Rebecca McInroy

As far as Christmas lights go, the “37th St.” displays have been hard to top in the past and Tracy Firshing is keeping the tradition alive! On any given night during the holiday season you can stroll through this festive Hyde Park neighborhood and there on the corner of 35th and Cedar you are more likely than not to hear the sounds of laughing kids bouncing on a trampoline, as passers-by gaze at the extraordinary display while “bathing” in the nostalgic smells of the bonfire wafting through the chilly night air.

Each illumination is like a Christmas present to Austin. The walkway filled with blue lights and Chinese paper fish feels like an aquarium. There’s the sock puppet nativity and the Yoda lights. All of it brilliantly crafted, yet at the same time as accessible as Zilker Park. We had a blast hanging out at the house and thought we would bring you a little piece of it in this video.

Merry Christmas from all of us here at Storyboard and if you are out an about around town make sure to take time to smell the incense and see the sights at the Firshing place!
