Get Involved

Thank You for Making the Get Involved Forum a Success!

November 2, 2011 10:43 am by: Angela Maldonado

Our first Get Involved Forum focused on Musician’s Healthcare in Austin. On October 17th, KUT hosted a forum at the Cactus Cafe with a panel of speakers from non-profits serving musicians and musicians themselves.

Get Involved Forum: Musicians Healthcare

KUT’s first Get Involved Forum on October 17, drummed up a good discussion from the crowd and online through the Ustream video above. Thank you to our panelists and audience who came out to discuss an issue that affects our community in so many ways.

From the panelists to the audience members, thank you.  This forum wouldn’t have the success it was if it wasn’t for everyone’s commitment to learning about and improving their community. An on-going dialogue with citizens and local organizations are essential to making Austin the city we love to call home.

If you happened to miss the discussion, it’s not too late.  Enjoy the video from the evening. If you’re moved by what you hear, find out ways you can get involved.

Also recently, Health Alliance for Austin Musicians had their annual HAAM Benefit Day. A multitude of businesses, volunteers and musicians came together to help raise money that keeps HAAM running to serve local musicians. HAAM Executive Director Carolyn Schwarz sent out a big thank you as well. Her message below.

Dear HAAM Members and Supporters,

Once again HAAM Benefit Day has been an amazing only-in-Austin experience! Thank you to all of you for your support of this special day, of HAAM and the musicians we serve! This day would not be possible without the support from community members like you!

This was the year of record-breaking! Most businesses participating, most music performances, most volunteers, most social media buzz and most dollars raised to support musicians’ healthcare! I am happy to report that we raised $235,000 to support musicians’ healthcare for the year to come. On behalf of all of us at HAAM and the musicians we serve, I thank you!

We have some great photos from the day.

AustinMusicWeekly put together a video that captures the excitement of the day.

There is still time to donate! If you missed HAAM Benefit Day and want to make a gift to support musicians’ healthcare, you can make a tax-deductible contribution to HAAM.

There was tremendous support from over 215 businesses in Austin including Presenting Sponsor Whole Foods Market and Underwriters: Brown Distributing, The Brown Cup, C3 Presents, GSD&M, South by Southwest, Texas Heritage Songwriters Association. Please continue to support these businesses throughout the year.

Thank you again to everyone who came out and supported HAAM Benefit Day this year. We appreciate you! And mark your calendars for 2012 – HAAM Benefit Day will be on Tuesday, October 2, 2012!

With appreciation,
Carolyn Schwarz
Executive Director
Health Alliance for Austin Musicians
