Portland, Oregon-based instrumental rock duo Talkdemonic combines elements of electronica, folk, rock and classical.

Multi-instrumentalist Kevin O’Connor started Talkdemonic in 2004 with violist Lisa Molinaro. O’Connor wanted to explore the boundaries of electronica and instrumental hip hop. Talkdemonic’s genre-bending sound quickly transformed into something all its own. Today’s song of the day “Revival” comes from Talkdemonic’s fourth studio album Ruins. It was released last month on Glacial Palace, the label started by Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock.

The band composes “Revival” in mini-movements. Molinaro’s strings howl and sing anchored by primal drumming and simple acoustic guitar strumming. In almost four minutes, the band journeys from plaintive dissonance to dreamy baroque to cathartic indie-rock.

You can see Talkdemonic tonight and tomorrow night when they open for Modest Mouse at Stubb’s.
