Graham Weber is originally from Ohio, but now quite happily makes Austin his home, and the place where he wants to continue making music. The songwriter has three impressive albums to his credit – Naïve Melodies (2003), Beggar’s Blues (2006) and The Door to the Morning (2008), and has been working on an EP with friend and collaborator Mike Schoenfeld in Schoenfeld’s band So Long, Problems. Now Weber reveals another captivating work, his remarkable fourth release, Women.

The title obviously pays tribute to the fantastic musical artists who contribute their talents to this work: Carrie Rodriguez, Dana Falconberry, Amanda Shires, Betty Soo, Bonnie Whitmore, Leslie Stevens and Weber’s wife, songwriter and actress Michelle Keffer. However, this not what Weber refers to as a concept album. It’s actually a project Weber wanted to do for years, sharing a uniquely female perspective through stories told from a woman’s point of view.

“When there are songs about two people dealing face-to-face with some of the problems and issues that come up in the relationship, I wanted female vocals on there to make the story a little more realistic,” Weber explains. “Even when it isn’t an actual duet, where it goes back and forth, you still feel the presence of a female voice or a female being there in that moment of whatever that particular song is describing.”

Be sure to see Graham Weber perform at a very special album release show Friday night at a place that’s not your typical music venue – the Hyde Park Theater, located at 511 W. 43rd St., just across the street from The Parlor. Doors open at 8 p.m. Then Weber will present an afterparty with So Long, Problems and Warm Guns at the Swan Dive, 615 Red River. The show will get started after 10 p.m.

Two opportunities to see a phenomenal artist, folks. Recommended.
