It’s been dubbed “the little festival that could.” And now, six years later, Fun Fun Fun Fest is still keeping it real.
As with any burgeoning project, there were the initial growing pains, and this year marked the big move from Waterloo Park to Auditorium Shores. Yet FFF Fest remains true to its original goal of highlighting independent music and progressive entertainment while maintaining a slightly more relaxed atmosphere.
FFF Fest officially opens today, and I, your Austin Music Minute host Laurie Gallardo, have a handful of personal recommendations for you to check out, if you’re so inclined:
Today – The Heartless Bastards and The Thermals on the orange stage; Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees on the black stage; and comedian/musical artist extraordinaire Reggie Watts on the yellow stage.
Saturday – Tinariwen, tUnE-yArDs, Girls and Lykke Li on the orange stage; Dead Horse and seminal gothed-up punk outfit The Damned on the black stage; Neon Indian on the blue stage; and writer/ comedian/Chapelle Show co-creator Neal Brennan on the yellow stage.
Sunday – Crooks, Mates of State, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists (another all-time favorite of mine), and Slayer (yes…Slayer) on the orange stage; Boris and definite must-see Black Lips on the black stage; and Chris Trew, and Henry Rollins on the yellow stage.
