Canadian duo Black Pistol Fire is keeping very busy splitting time between Toronto, where they’re working on their second full-length album, and Austin. After recording and performing as part of the trio The Shenanigans, guitarist and vocalist Kevin McKeown and drummer Eric Owen moved here in 2009 and made the decision to become a duo. It was time for a change of scenery and a change in sound. The two jumped right into rehearing, and Black Pistol Fire was born.

Quite obviously, they make rock and roll that explodes in your face, like an electrifying mix of classic southern, garage and – to an extent – punk rock, but what you primarily feel in the floorboard-rattling guitar wails and drum beats is this undeniable blues influence scorching the atmosphere and crashing everywhere.

They’ve been touring and working on their next album, which should be coming out early next year.

Don’t miss Black Pistol Fire when they headline a show Saturday night at Emo’s, 603 Red River. This is a massive rock triple bill that includes local bands The White White Lights and The Blind Pets. Solid all around. Doors open at 9 p.m. Recommended.
