Austin’s very own Black Joe Lewis is a dangerous man. He’s bluesman with a punk rock heart, and a soul-shouter unafraid to let wring his heart out on every track. With his band the Honeybears, Lewis brings back the immediacy and the grit back to soul and blues.

Born and raised in Central Texas (He went to Round Rock High School), Lewis picked up his first guitar at age 20 while working at a pawn shop. In the almost 10 years since, Lewis forged his own brand of raucous soul and blues. With the Honeybears, he’s toured with Spoon and Okkervil River, and had spots at festivals like Lollapalooza, Coachella, Bonnarroo and Austin’s ACL Fest. Jim Eno of Spoon produced Lewis and the Honeybears’ 2009 record Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is!. Today’s song of the day, “She’s So Scandalous,” comes from the follow-up, Scandalous, released in March of this year.

“She’s So Scandalous” is a sexy tune. With guitar line straight from 70s soul, a funky rhythm and a big fat bass line, it’s a song fit for the boudoir. Horn stabs courtesy of the Honeybears add a smooth cool as Lewis does his best James Brown.

You can see Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears this Friday Nov. 4 at 5:35 p.m. on the Orange Stage during Fun Fun Fun Fest.
