From out of the Rocky Mountains comes Denver band Woodsman. The quartet craft moody psychedelia as wild as their name implies.
Forming four years ago, Woodsman is the result of two different Denver duos combining forces, leading to a band built around two drummers and two guitarists. Over four EPs and a full-length (last January’s Rare Forms) Woodsman has honed a sound that’s heavy and brooding, but also rooted in melody. Each release is a balance between these two extremes, and the group is focused enough to find the proper mixture of ingredients.
Today’s song of the day is “In Circles” from the band’s new EP Mystic Places, out October 25. Those two drummers come in handy–”In Circles” is built on a strong rhythmic foundation, allowing the guitars and singer Mark Demolar’s vocals to float to the top. It’s a slow-building song, but it’s worth a number of spins to truly wrap your head around it.
