What We’re Watching: SoundCloud

October 17, 2011 2:13 pm by: Rebecca McInroy

SoundCloud.com is a website where bands, music lovers, and general audiophiles converge. In a sleek, user-friendly environment SoundCloud allows you to easily record or upload any audio in a variety of formats, and then places them on your site with a visual waveform representation. Any web surfer can then browse your sounds and have a listen to your creations – with the option of leaving timed comments as they listen.

For musicians and producers working on honing their craft, this feedback feature can be especially useful. SoundCloud is also advantageous because it functions as a networking tool and fosters a community, allowing you to follow any artists or labels, and keeping you up to date on their recent uploads. For beginners it’s free, but it also has several upgrade options that may come in handy for the more serious SoundClouders. Check it out the inspiring videos SoundCloud produces on Vimeo about sound and the art of listening and check out SoundCloud itself. It’s What We’re Watching, and listening too!
