Sometimes, the darkness seems to have no end in sight, no light at the end. Nothing. That may be a bit bleak for some personal tastes, but a band like The Dalles has a way of giving voice to that intense experience.

Based here in Austin, with frontman Ben Ballinger at the helm, The Dalles impart a dark and portentous air to their roots-heavy indie rock, a narration of a endless struggle and frustration, without necessarily showing a silver lining in any of the dark clouds.

The Dalles have been busy working on their upcoming debut album, and are planning a tour tentatively scheduled for the end of this month or late fall. For now, they’re sharing their new music with audiences at their Wednesday night residency at the Hole In the Wall, on Guadalupe. Tonight, they share the bill with Unwed Fathers, Fast Luke and The Lead Heavy, and Bridge Farmers. The show starts at 9 p.m. so get there on time to catch all of these great bands. Recommended.
