Sometimes good music comes from odd places. If you were to go looking for smart, playful Afro-pop with a modern twist, you wouldn’t necessarily go looking in central Ohio. You’d also miss out on Way Yes.
The band Way Yes formed in early 2010 in Columbus, Ohio by longtime friends and musical collaborators Travis Hall and Glenn Davis. With the addition of multi-instrumentalist and audio engineer Max Lewis, Way Yes became a trio. A busy one at that. Last year the band released two EPs: Herringbone and Walkability.
On October 18, Way Yes releases the single Oranjudio. The record’s A-side “Automail” is today’s song of the day. It’s a joyous tune, punched up by driving Afro-latin rhythms, whimsical guitar lines and dreamy electronic touches. You’ll never think of Ohio the same way again.
