Welcome, foolish mortals! By the way, if you don’t get that reference, it happens to come from a rather famously happy haunt with a very recognizable ghost host.

Yes, it’s the special All Hallow’s Eve edition of the Austin Music Minute, and I, your ghost hostess with the mostess Laurie Gallardo, am pleased to share with you one of THE biggest social events of the season. Halloween simply wouldn’t be complete without the White Ghost Shivers Annual Halloween Ball.

This is the eighth year the Shivers are presenting their devilishly delightful monster mash, and it’s always a guaranteed good time with some of the best live musical performances around. This year, the Shivers have invited Austin’s finest and most frenzied “drunkgrass” banjoed-up brigade Clyde and Clem’s Whiskey Business as their special musical guests, so between the two bands there’ll be dancing-aplenty.

Keep in mind the theme of this year’s ball:  Blue. Yes, you’ve read right – and it absolutely matches the Shivers’ sense of humor, if you grown-ups catch my drift. So whatever you do, be sure to put together a costume that runs with the idea. Think:  The Smurfs, Cookie Monster, Grover or Sam the Eagle (wait…that eagle’s way too uptight – nevermind); Blue Beard or the Blue Fairy; the Blue Man Group; your favorite blues artist like Howlin’ Wolf, or even The Blues Brothers; maybe a giant can of Pabst Blue Ribbon. The Moody Blues? Just let your imagination run wild with it.

Enjoy yourself at the White Ghost Shivers’ 8th Annual Halloween Ball tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River. Doors open at 8 p.m. Have a safe and Happy Halloween, and in the words of someone who knows her ghouls and fiends, unpleasant dreams…
