Annie Clark‘s initial musical presence may have appeared somewhat fragile at first, when she made her debut in 2007 as St. Vincent with her album, Marry Me. However, appearances are so deceptive. It soon became clear that it was all part of a brilliant package – genteel meets completely unhinged.
From the get-go, critics and fans were completely taken by her candor. Now St. Vincent presents her third album, Strange Mercy, and we must make note that strange is an art form.
The Dallas native is a beguiling master of contrast, juxtaposing seemingly delicate imagery or ideals with the dark, twisted and repugnant. It’s a raw, poetic melding of beauty and rage. Her live performances are also jaw-droppingly astonishing. Even without a backing band and perhaps just a guitar and her voice, she commands your attention. Actually, she’ll stop you dead in your tracks.
You won’t want to miss St. Vincent at her show tonight at ACL Live at The Moody Theater, 310 W. Willie Nelson Blvd. Opening the show is the phenomenal Cate Le Bon. This will be an amazing show altogether. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Get there early to see both. Highly recommended.
