“Austin, Texas is The Live Music Capital of the World with thousands of artists calling our city their home and more coming each day,” said Tricia Forbes, SIMS Executive Director. “We provide the mental health resources and support musicians need to continue sharing their talent, which has a tremendous economic and cultural impact on Austin. This benefit helps us support over 600 artists a year.”
The irregular hours, travel schedules and financial insecurity can take their toll on musicians and their families, sometimes resulting in depression, anxiety and relationship problems. Through their staff clinicians and network of over 60 providers in private practice who see SIMS clients at a reduced rate, SIMS serve hundreds of musicians and leverages 700 thousand dollars of in-kind support each year.
SIMS was founded in 1995 by the friends and family of Sims Ellison, a talented young Austin musician, after his battle with depression ended in suicide. Since its inception, the SIMS Foundation has provided mental health and addiction treatment services for Austin area musicians and their families. SIMS is based in Austin, Texas.
