Portrait of an Artist: Elisabeth Perez-Luna
“I was one of those annoying kids who was asking why,” said Elisabeth Perez-Luna when she came into the KUT studios to talk with us about her career as a lifelong journalist, writer and thinker. She was in town to help for a second year with Texas Folklife’s ongoing project, Stories From Deep in the Heart. It’s because of her continuing curiosity that public radio listeners have been able to enjoy programs such as Crossroads, WHYY’s What Are We Thinking, Impact of War and many other documentaries and programs that continue to enrich our lives.
Perez-Luna grew up as a first generation Venezuelan, the child of a French mother and Spanish Father. In her home, “…either you talked a lot or you read a lot…we learned to talk and to express our opinions,” said Perez-Luna. “In a way writing and being a journalist has been part of my life forever…and it is my passion everyday.”
We truly enjoyed the opportunity to hear about her background, development and her favorite radio moments and we hope you do as well with this Portrait of an Artist piece with Elisabeth Perez-Luna.
