Ola Podrida began as the solo project of film composer David Wingo. When he moved to New York City in 2006, though, it soon evolved into a live band that just happened to include some of his Texas friends.
While in New York, Ola Podrida had amazing opportunities to play shows with Fleet Foxes, Beach House, She & Him, Blitzen Trapper, and many other great bands, and the big coup was getting a spot in the All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival in the UK, curated by Explosions In the Sky. Wingo moved back to Austin in 2009, and the band, which is now a quartet (Matt Clark, David Hobizal and Colin Swietek), is currently working on a new album that’s scheduled for a spring release.
Luckily, you don’t have to wait until then to hear some new tracks. Ola Podrida will give you a preview at their show Saturday night at Frank, located at 4th and Colorado. The bill includes performances by ((Sounder)) and Girling. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. Recommended.
