Los Campesinos! formed in 2006 while the members were at university in Cardiff, Wales. Since then, the band has made a mark with a combination of sweet pop arrangements and a sharp (and very British) post-punk sound. Over three full-length records, including last year’s expansive Romance Is Boring, and as many EPs, Los Campesinos! have grown from a group of feisty university kids into full-fledged pop-making adults.

Today’s song of the day is “By Your Hand,” the lead track from the band’s forthcoming record Hello Sadness, out November 15. Singer and primary songwriter Gareth Campesinos! (Members replace surnames with “Campesinos!” a la The Ramones) mellows his usually biting delivery, turning the chorus into an immediate sing-along. It’s a more grown-up track, but it holds on to the youthful exuberance that made them great.
