Some people are content with one successful career. Jon Langford has several. Not only is he one of the founders of famed British punk group The Mekons, he is also an accomplished visual artist, radio personality and chronicler of country music history. Ever the collaborator, Langford has worked with artists ranging from Dutch punk band The Ex to Texans Alejandro Escovedo, The Old 97s and Rosie Flores.

Langford’s solo career demonstrates his unique ability to combine the earnestness of punk with honest, soul-bearing folk and Americana. On his 1998 solo debut, Skull Orchard, Langford crafted bittersweet tales of life in his native Wales. The record was re-released this year. Called Skull Orchard Revisited, it includes expanded arrangements, a book of Langford’s illustrations and today’s song of the day. “Sentimental Marching Song” finds Langford delivering his vocals with a passion born out of many years lived in service of both art and rock and roll.

You can see Jon Langford tonight at the Continental Club.
