Jerry Jeff Walker is the type of country musician that you thought only existed in country songs. He went show-to-show with only his motorcycle and his guitar; he played for change on the street; he did all of that hard-life-of-a-young-country-musician stuff, and he probably felt sad and wrote songs about it too. And then he wrote Mr. Bojangles, a song that has become an American staple, covered over and over by a who’s who of other artists. Today, Walker is a country legend, but he still manages to color his music with that road-weary traveling musician feel. On October 19th, Jerry Jeff Walker will play a benefit concert for Swan Songs, a charity dedicated to bringing intimate concerts to terminally ill patients. You can learn more about Swan Songs and Jerry Jeff Walker on Thursday when he comes to play live on KUT from Studio 1a.
