Over the past five years, Girls Rock Austin has put instruments into the hands of five hundred girls, teaching them to play music while empowering them and imparting life lessons. When girls enter Girls Rock Camp, they have one week to form bands, learn to play, write a song and perform in front of an audience. It’s intense but fun, and Girls Rock Camp founder Emily Marks says if they can do that, they can do anything.

Now, to celebrate its first half decade, Girls Rock Camp is throwing themselves a party. In keeping with the mission of Girls Rock, it’ll be a family friendly rock show, including performances from some of the girls themselves and a tribute to Miss Lavelle White. It’ll all happen this Saturday, October 29, at Jo’s Coffee on South Congress, and performers include Girls Rock Camp alumnae Schmillion, U-18 band Charlie Belle, Akina Adderley and the Vintage Playboys and the Shears.
