Seventy years ago one of the most celebrated songwriters in Texas music was born. The times and the town would provide many of the stories that would inspire a young man who grew up to be one of the most influential songwriters in Texas. Though Guy Clark has lived more of his life outside of Texas than in it, no one has a greater claim on the soul of Texas music. On this special edition of Texas Music Matters we explore the life and music of Guy Clark.

On November 2nd, a who’s who of Texas musicians will come together to honor Guy Clark and his 70th birthday at The Long Center. The concert, called “Wish I Was in Austin: A 70th Birthday Tribute to Guy Clark”, is being held in conjunction with the release of This One’s For Him, a tribute CD to the legendary songwriter. The double CD features 30 Guy Clark songs performed by artists such as Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Patty Griffin and many more. Some of the featured artists performing their Guy Clark cover live on November 2nd include Rodney Crowell, Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Joe Ely and Jerry Jeff Walker.
