The Happen-Ins, an Austin quartet formed in 2009, weren’t exactly determined to carry on musical traditions. They’re about mixing things up. Their approach is more of an homage to the riffs they love, while simultaneously blowing up the comfort zones and wrecking all the orderly piles. Rock ‘n’ roll is for running wild.
Featuring guitarist and lead vocalist Sean Faires, bassist and vocalist John Michael, guitarist Ricky Ray Jackson and drummer Falcon Valdez, The Happen-Ins keep the equation simple, but they’re not interested in presenting their tunes in a tidy package. They keep it messy by blurring the lines between classic styles and an uninhibited field-day across the board. Just take the grittiest parts of blues, rock, R&B and a dash of twang, rattle it up ’til it foams at the mouth, let it loose and keep the sound dirty.
This is another one of those bands you must see live. Check out The Happen-Ins at their show Friday night at The Continental Club, 1315 S. Congress Ave. And quite frankly, the entire bill will keep the place rockin’: The Preservation, Gold Blooded and Not In the Face!. Get there a bit early because Not In the Face! starts things out at 9:30 p.m. sharp. Highly recommended, folks.
