Rarely here at Storyboard do we dabble in the ways of music, but when we heard Ruby Jane–fiddler, singer/songwriter and bandleader of The Ruby Jane Show–was going to perform at this year’s ACL festival we couldn’t help ourselves.

All of 16, Ruby has already played the Grand Ole Opry, toured with Texas greats like Willie Nelson and Asleep At The Wheel, and shared a stage with legendary artists including Dale Watson. In fact, Dale played a part, sort of, in bringing this young talent to Austin at the age of 12.

The first night that I was in town we went to the Continental Club and Dale Watson happened to be playing. I don’t even remember how I got in being 12,” said Ruby Jane, “but somehow I guess we talked our way in, and I started talking to Dale back stage.

Long story short Dale asked Ruby to join him with her fiddle for the show and that was that.

Austin was like nothing I had ever seen before…” she said. “We went on to San Diego and then came back [to Austin] and parked our RV and never left.

Austin is certainly lucky to have her and if you are lucky enough to be at ACL this weekend don’t miss Ruby Jane Sunday September 18th at 11:20.
