Luísa Maita is the perfect representation of modern Brazil – a musical artist who seamlessly blends the traditional with the contemporary.
Surrounded by music since her childhood (her father is singer Amado Maita), the São Paulo native incorporates many of the musical styles she grew up with into her songwriting, such as samba and bossa nova among others. Yet she also has a deep love for jazz, and finds endless inspiration in pop, funk and downtempo electronic beats. She brings each of these elements together on her 2010 release Lero-Lero – classic sounds with a contemporary, urban feel.
Do not miss Maita’s performance Friday night at Flamingo Cantina, 515 E. 6th St. Local Brazilian outfit Suns of Orpheus will open the show, and DJ Richard Henry will be on hand to spin hot tropical beats between sets. Doors open at 9 p.m. Recommended.
