Central Texas Wildfire Update

Firefighters continue to battle wildfires that have scorched thousands of acres, destroyed hundreds of homes and forced evacuations across Central Texas. We have the latest on the fires, school closures for Tuesday and more on the podcast.

Gov. Perry’s Response to Wildfires

Governor Rick Perry passed up a chance to speak to voters at a Tea Party event in South Carolina Monday to deal with the wildfires burning in Central Texas. For KUT News and the Texas Tribune, Ben Philpott reports on how this change of plans was seen on the campaign trail – and at home.

Texas Redistricting Trial

A trial is set to begin today in San Antonio to determine the legality of Texas’ new congressional redistricting map. The map gives Texas four more seats in Congress. Opponents say the map dilutes the minority vote. The GOP led Texas Legislature designed the map and Gov. Perry signed it.  The trial overseen by a three judge panel is expected to last nine days.
