Perry’s Latest Ad Attacks Obama

Texas Governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry’s new campaign ad is a direct attack on President Barack Obama’s economic record. KUT’s Ben Philpott has details on today’s Newspod.

Brewer Executed for Jasper Dragging Death

Documented white supremacist gang member Lawrence Russell Brewer was executed in Texas Wednesday. Brewer was put to death for the high-profile dragging death of James Byrd Jr., an African American man from East Texas.

In 1998, Byrd was chained to a pickup and dragged to death. Another man is on death row for the murder and a third man is serving a life sentence.

Litigation May Follow Bastrop Wildfires

Investigators with the Texas Forest Service have determined that one of the Bastrop wildfires was most likely caused by a dead pine tree falling on power lines. The other fire was most likely started by tree limbs entangling in power lines. Both trees were near Bluebonnet Electric utility easements. As KUT’s Erika Aguilar reports, litigation could be on the way.
