Free Flu Shot Clinics Opening in Travis County
The Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department is offering free flu shots for people who are uninsured, underinsured or on Medicare. Some of the flu clinics allow walk-ins, others are by appointment only.
The first clinic is Wednesday at Givens Park on East 12th Street from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. No appointment is needed for this clinic.
Property Tax Rate Could Increase in Travis County
Travis County Commissioners are holding a public hearing Tuesday on a proposed tax rate increase for FY 2012. If commissioners adopt the proposed tax rate, the average homeowner would pay an additional $33 a year.
The tax rate is one item on a list of public hearings starting at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom in the Ned Granger Building on 314 West 11th Street.
Cleanup Continues in Bastrop County
The Bastrop wildfires burned more than 1,500 homes, and left tens of thousands without power. Officials have called the job of clearing debris and restoring power a “mammoth undertaking.” On today’s Newspod, Jessica Mahoney reports on the difficulties of rebuilding.
