Remembering Cactus Pryor
A memorial service for Austin broadcaster Richard “Cactus” Pryor is set for Friday afternoon. He died Tuesday from complications from a fall and broken leg. He was 88 years old. Cactus spent 65 years on Austin’s airwaves, both TV and radio. In 2007, he told listeners to his daily commentaries on KLBJ-AM that he had Alzheimer’s Disease.
President’s Job Council Visits Dallas
President Barack Obama unveils his jobs plan next week. Ahead of that, the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness is on the road for a series of “listening sessions.” The Council stopped at SMU in Dallas Thursday. KERA’s BJ Austin reports the discussion centered on transportation jobs.
UT Season Opener
The first UT football game of the season is Saturday against Rice. Expect some road closures near the university. The game starts at 7 p.m. but Longhorn fans may not be able to watch it on TV. The new Longhorn Network is still not available in Central Texas. Network executives say they are still in negotiations with cable providers.
