Here’s the lowdown on a local band that’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. Hello Wheels is an Austin-based quartet that joyfully pounds out what they like to describe as “stomp-folk,” a rather passionate folk revival driven by heavy rhythms that you irresistibly find yourself stomping along to. Featuring the talents of Peter Shults, Matt Bradshaw, Nick Garza and John Shaw, the band weaves a dynamic chemistry with a host of harmonies.
They’re known attracting quite a crowd – they played to a sold-out room at the Cactus Café back in July at the release show for their debut album Baby John the Fox. However, you’ll have quite a few opportunities to see Hello Wheels when they take up residency at the Cactus, located at 24th and Guadalupe in the Texas Union on the UT campus. All throughout September, they’ll play each Wednesday night, sharing the bill with various local bands. This Wednesday’s show will include another must-see, Wild Child.
Doors open at 8 p.m., but keep in mind that the room fills up quickly, so get there early to get a seat. Don’t miss out. Highly recommended.
