Way back in the day, when Austin’s streets were first being assigned names, 6th St. was known as Pecan St. Hence, the name of this weekend’s arts and crafts semi-annual event, The Old Pecan Street Festival, honoring the original name of the street.
This year, the festival is celebrating thirty years of showcasing arts and crafts by local and visiting artisans. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without live music by local bands, and this year’s event has some exceptional selections that you won’t want to miss. There are three stages that will feature a wide variety of talent and genres, a little something for everyone’s musical palette. Several of these artists have been featured on the Austin Music Minute: The Sour Notes, Hard Proof Afrobeat, Wild Child, New Roman Times, Erin Ivey, Little Radar, STEREO IS A LIE, Maneja Beto, Ringo Deathstarr, The Shears, BK and Mr. E., Zest of Yore and so many more.
The Pecan Street Festival happens tomorrow, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Old Pecan St. – or 6th St., as we know it today, in Downtown Austin. Visit the festival website for the list of bands and performance times. Recommended as a great way to check out a lot of bands you may not have had the opportunity to see yet.
