Gomez hail from Southport, England, but over the course of their 14-year career, they’ve found their inspiration in American roots music. They boast three singers and four different songwriters, leading to an eclectic sound that draws from folk, blues, rock, electronic music, and all points in between. Their 1997 debut Bring It On won the prestigious Mercury Prize in England (equivalent to the Grammys), and this year they released their seventh album, Whatever’s On Your Mind.
Gomez were out at the Austin City Limits Music Festival this past weekend. Despite it being their third appearance for the fest, they still manage to bring fresh energy to their sets, relying on the group’s bold dynamics to carry them forward. KUT was able to snag an exclusive backstage performance from Gomez, and even in the stripped-down setting, the band sounded larger-than-life. From that live session, here’s “Options,” by Gomez.
