I, your humble Austin Music Minute maven Laurie Gallardo, have to admit that Golden Bear is at the top of my list of favorite bands. They had me captivated with their debut self-titled album, released in 2006. And with each release after that  (To The Farthest Star in 2007, and the EP Everest in 2009), they’ve consistently blown me away.

The Austin-based quintet, purveyors of what they like to call “galactic forest rock,” is set to release a new full-length album, called Alive. A most appropriate title that describes the overall tone – alive, exuberant, vibrant, and enchanting. It is indeed galactic and organic, a huge embrace of otherworldly power pop and rock that swells and soars.

Golden Bear has a show Saturday night at Frank, 407 Colorado at 4th St. The bill includes performances by indie-country band San Saba County and folk-pop quartet White Leaf. Really great music all around. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. Highly recommended.
