I gotta admit that I, your humble Austin Music Minute maven Laurie Gallardo, have long considered Colin Gilmore one of my favorites, and over the past few years, I finally pinpointed why.
Colin, of course, comes from a deeply rooted musical background – dad Jimmie Dale Gilmore can attest to that – but Colin’s the sort of artist who takes what he’s learned and what he’s influenced by and molds it into something uniquely his own. His style incorporates rock ‘n’ roll with a West Texas feel and distinct elements of folk, punk, even rockabilly and psychedelia.
Gilmore is wrapping up his September residency this week at Frank. This is an acoustic show, and while I enjoy seeing Colin perform with his band, it’s wonderful to experience the intimacy of his acoustic performances. Be sure to join him Tuesday night at Frank, located at 4th St. and Colorado. Doors open at 9 p.m. Highly recommended.
